Types of Metals Metals are separated into two basic groups Ferrous and Non-Ferrous, they are further categorised in each group which is set to international standards and specifications.
Ferrous - All types of metals which are magnetised:Steel which is smaller than 1 metre square and is greater that 3mm in thickness ie. plate steel discs, Engines, Brakes, Hubs etc. Steel which is larger than 1 metre square and is greater than 3mm in thickness, ie: Machinery lengths, Railway iron, construction beams etc. Steel which is generally roofing iron, car panels and other items less than 1.5mm in thickness because of the consumption of energy and resources used to recycle.
Non-Ferrous - All non ferrous steels which are generally softer material and are not magnetised.Grades: Alloys, Copper, Brass, Bronze, Lead and Zinc All grades of non-ferrous in each grade are then further broken down in specific grades with separate pricing for each. The pricing fluctuates week to week with the rise and fall of the New Zealand dollar and international demand, which we will keep updated on our current prices page.
